Fuel like a Champion

Your body is a machine and daily fueling with “high octane” foods will keep you running strong and at peak performance.

Follow my high-octane FUEL RULES for a competitive edge.

Caffeine:
Caffeinated beverages increase urine output which can lead to dehydration. Ideally we are looking for natural energy sources, not synthetic ones.

Hydration:
For serious hydration, coconut water is nature’s version of a sport drink only on “steroids”. It will get the liquid into the muscles faster for complete hydration than any bottled water or synthetic drink on the market. Monitor your urine color: If its pale like lemonade that’s a sign of good hydration. If it’s dark like apple juice, you need to drink more fluids.

After-Workout Recovery:
Ideally, consuming a good ratio of carbohydrates and protein within 15-30 minutes after a workout/sporting event, is optimal. My suggestion: chocolate milk! Yes sirree, Bob. Who knew! There is a good balance of carbs and proteins in chocolate milk that will stabilize blood sugars after a rockin’ workout. But within the hour, make sure you eat a nutrient-dense recovery meal. Try a 3 egg-white omelet filled with spinach, mushrooms and lean ham.

Energy:
There is a process your body follows to convert the food you eat into the energy you need for high performance. What you ate two days ago will indicate how you feel today. Do this: check your energy. How do you feel? If you’re sluggish today, look and see what you ate two days ago. Empty calories are always energy killers. Attempting to eat for energy just before a workout falls short of a higher level of fueling which is to fuel for health every day so you’ll always have the energy you need when demands are placed on you.

You’ll only know how good you can feel and how efficiently you can perform if you switch over to nutritionally-dense, “high-octane” foods.

Focus and give it your best shot!
